FRAGRANCE CREATION

THE SCIENCE INVOLVED FROM LABORATORY TO BOTTLE

Evaluator
Works closely with the Perfumer to select which fragrance and flavours to submit to the client.

Farmer
Sources the ingredients.

Development/Formulation Chemist
Creates and develops formulations for new Fragrances, or reengineers existing formulas.

Perfumer/The Nose
Blend aromas and chemicals to create or match a fragrance. An artist who relies on their olfactory talents and their refinement to identify and distinguish fragrance ingredients and create perfume compositions

Lab Technician
Assists the chemist, blending and mixing formulations to ensure stability and efficacy. Provides support to technical and/or creative team, supporting the day-to-day activities within the laboratory

Fragrance Technical Manager
A scientist with strong chemistry and fragrance formulation experience. They will research and drive the fragrance direction and story behind a brand.

Fragrance Technician
Supports the Evaluators and Perfumers.

Odour Evaluator
Evaluates the quality of odours emitted by aromatic chemicals to set standards for production, and the exact particulars of the formula for preparing the fragrance

Scent Design Specialist
Provides olfactive guidance, balancing creative innovation, understanding of the technical aspects of fragrance formulation, and client strategy as well as knowledge of the market, categories, brands, consumers, and the ability to translate these insights.

Apprentice/Trainee Perfumer 
Learns how to combine creative expression with technical skills, exploring all aspects of perfumery design to craft fragrances

Chemist
Analyses organic and inorganic compounds, refine substances and test chemical products to improve the quality of products and procedures while ensuring safety

GCMS Technician
Works on the GCMS machines, checking and matching components of a fragrance. GCMS allows analysis and detection of tiny amounts of a substance.

Sales Executive
Responsible for managing key contracts/customers’ accounts with a view to profitable sales growth and the day-to-day management of the customer account including accurate sales forecasting.

Process Engineer
Provides process support to the whole site, providing an expert resource for process improvements and troubleshooting across disparate areas of the business.

Quality Control Analyst
Ensures the testing of raw materials and finished products are performed on all samples to the applicable analytical specification and performing detailed chemical analysis of customer samples / non-conformances using laboratory equipment.

Supply Chain Coordinator 
Responsible for the overall purchasing activities, management and monitoring of inventory, coordinating receiving and shipment of goods and providing general logistics support.

Process Technician/Operator
Responsible for making the finished product according to set operating standards and procedures.

Production Support
Ensures the smooth running of operations. varied duties supporting the production manager and team, driving continuous improvement and the development of standards and procedures.

Marketing Analyst 
Responsible for interpreting research about the company's consumers and their buying habits, identifying target audiences and collating analytics to prepare strategies for success in marketing campaigns with an impact on sales outcomes.

Project Coordinator
Co-ordinates the day-to-day operations of assigned projects.


FRAGRANCE DEVELOPMENT

ENSURING THE BOTTLE CAN MOVE FROM LABORATORY TO FACTORY

Toxicologist
Specialises in the ways chemicals affect the body and skin, toxicologists perform controlled experiments and run a variety of tests to ensure cosmetic products are safe for the consumer to use.

Regulatory Chemist
Specialises in regulatory, compliance and legislative issues to make sure the product is compliant to all global markets. They produce Product Information Files and list products on the CPNP, Cosmetic Product Notification Portal and ensures the products meet cosmetic regulations in all the markets where they will be sold.

Patent Chemist
Will ensure a formulation or manufacturing process is unique and will out a patent on it so no one else can copy it. They will also try to prove other companies formulations aren't unique and take their patent title away so they can use similar formulations or processes.

Quality Assurance Manager
An experienced senior chemist who takes overall responsibility for the finished product, if anything goes wrong it falls on their head, they are legally responsible and can be sued.

Technical Manager
Manages, motivates and trains the team in the laboratory, selects raw materials, interacts with clients and suppliers to create an innovative and effective product. They manage all existing products and all current and future product development to drive the business forward. They run stability testing, solve any technical challenges related to solubility, performance, and colouration.

Process/Production Chemist
Take the formulations from the laboratory into manufacturing and filling. They liaise with the laboratory and manufacturing to ensure as the batch size increases the manufacturing procedures are adjusted correctly to ensure stability.

R&D Project Manager
Takes the project from concept to production, ensuring all research, development and production is fit for purpose. They liaise with many different departments within the business to ensure products are ready on time and in full.

Technical Sales
Sells the raw materials, chemicals and actives to the brands and contract manufacturers. Often from a scientific or chemist background they sell to the technical teams and buyers.

Consumer Market Research Analyst
Organises consumer tests, project samples, test sites, analyses statistical data and makes recommendations vs key benchmarks.


OPERATIONS

ENSURING THE SMOOTH DELIVERY OF A FRAGRANCE FROM FACTORY TO SHELF

Buyer/Purchasing Manager
Responsible for selecting new perfumes and reviewing the old, negotiating prices, finding the right suppliers, ensuring products are delivered on time, stock control, budgeting and maintaining relationships with existing and new suppliers.

Factory Manager / Head of Operations
Oversee plant operations and supervise workers. Their responsibilities typically include areas such as manufacturing, filling, packaging, assembly, quality control and safety for the products.

Logistics Manager
Manages the supply chain and movement of raw materials, packaging, bulk, finished products and Point of Sale. Everything that comes in and goes out of the factory.

Glass Blower
Working with complex pieces requires a team of several glassworkers, in a choreography of precisely timed movements.

Packaging Technologist
Look after the inner and outer packaging making sure the product is safe, easy to use and attractive to the consumer.

Production Manager
Manufactures the bulk and often oversees the filling and packing of the bottles.

Supply Chain Manager
They transfer products from manufacturing to the retailers to ensure the stores are fully stocked with products on their shelves. Responsibilities include planning delivery timetables, ensuring stores have enough stock, over seeing the ordering, manufacturing, packing and delivery of shipments of products.

Warehouse Manager
Receives stock, stores the raw materials, packaging and finished products before they are despatched to the stores and retailers.


MARKETING JOBS

Marketing Director
Will lead and develop the marketing team, look at strategy and innovation to drive both short and long term growth and profit. They look at the 3-5 year plan, product and brand forecasts and development to help steer the company to future growth.

Product/Brand Manager
Responsible for planning and developing the marketing strategy. They work with various company departments including product development, market research, sales, advertising and public relations and typically report to the marketing director.

Advertising Manager
Manages the external agencies or creates ideas, copy and visuals in house for adverts and social media to promote the product.

Digital Media Manager
Manage all digital media and web sites, SEO, PPC, the user journey through the web site to ensure their products and brands are easy to buy.

Event Manager
An Event Manager will organise events in store, at exhibitions, pop ups or special functions.

Product and Packaging Designer
Works on product and pack design as well as marketing material on line and in store, also corporate branding. They work on label and print design as well as bottles shapes, textures, outer packaging, marketing, point of sale, advertising and gift with purchase products.

Public Relations
Build awareness and interest, acting as a spokesperson who manages the flow of information to the public internally for the company. They sell the ideas to the bloggers and ensure coverage in the media and manage any critical publicity.

Social Media Manager
Manages all the social media sites and campaigns, working closely with PR and sometimes doing both roles, twitter, blogs, FB, instagram, youtube to ensure the brands and products get maximum exposure.

Marketing Assistant - Find Out More
Supports the marketing team in all areas - Product, Price, Place, Promotion. The work can involve the NPD and Marcoms, looking at competitors, trend analysis and project management.

Merchandiser
Places products in store or decides what goes where on a planogram for each store to ensure the best selection and sales of all products and promotions.

Marketing Researcher
Analyse sales and information and run consumer tests and trials to ensure NPD is focused on what the consumer wants with the product purchases, They will monitor and research global trends and innovation.

Marketing Analyst
Crunches the sales numbers to work our strategy, what is selling where, what promotions are working and why they help to analyse the best strategy moving forward to sell more products.


SALES JOBS

New Product Development Manager
Source new innovative ingredients, packaging ideas etc to add to the range. They look at competitors and do trend analysis In order to project manage concept to shelf for the new product.

Head of Sales
Plans the strategy to grow the business, takes decisions on where to sell the perfume and leads the sales team.

Account Manager
Generate new business and look after existing clients. Selling finished fragrance into independent stores and department stores, high street stores, online stores etc.

Key Account Manager
Looks after one or two Key accounts/clients and works closely with the Product Managers to develop a joint business plan to get the best sell through for their fragrance.

Business Development Manager
Responsible for building sales and business opportunities through gaining new customers and accounts.

Sales Analyst
Will look at trends, focussing on epos data from stores. A figure based role, looking at what affect promotions and POS have, spreadsheets, number crunching and analysis.

Internal Sales
An Internal or Sales Support person will be working in a business, contacting potential customers by telephone to try and persuade them to buy the product, or at least accept a trial. They may also carry out market research and book appointments for external sales people in the field.

Country Manager
Looks after a specific country or territory managing the whole business including sales, marketing and operations for their brand.

Area Manager
Sells into independent or department stores within a specific area. Based out on the road, visiting clients or accounts.

Brand Ambassador
Works in store or at events, usually for a specific brand, training the sales team on product details and sales skills. The role can be global, travelling to all international markets to train the local teams.

Counter Sales
In store sales, direct contact with high street purchases.


MANAGEMENT & FINANCE

Managing Director
Ensure all areas of the business are working efficiently and drive the business forward, looking at current, short and long term plans to deliver success for their product.

Personal Assistant
PAs work closely with senior managers to help them juggle their workload, free up their time, manage diaries, processes and systems and also personal commitments.

HR Manager
Recruit, train & motivate the workforce, they are responsible for the welfare of the staff and also deal with redundancies and terminating employment.

Bookkeeper
Manages the financial ins and outs within a business, recording all entries and making sure a healthy cash flow is maintained. They look at cost of goods and ensures all products are financially viable.

Accountant
Manages the financial responsibility of a business, plans, strategises and helps the business build growth. They work with all departments, the MD or CEO to help them plan, budget and manage their budgets and actual expenses, for the manufacturing and supply of product, they help with overall financially related business decisions to ensure the business is profitable.
